U.S. Military Black AN/PVS-7 / AN/PVS-14 NVG "Skull Crusher" Headmount Harness Assembly

Product Description

US Military Black Army/Navy Portable Visual Search-Seven / Army/Navy Portable Visual Search-Fourteen Night Vision Goggles "Skullcrusher" Head Mount Headset Harness Assembly

Made as a solution to the problem of soldiers requiring hands-free night vision while performing their duties, these NVG head harnesses were used by all branches of the U.S. Military from the late 1980s to the 2010s. Since most of the early-production PASGT helmets lacked a drilled hole dedicated for an NVG mount as was, these headmounts were ideal for drivers, map reading, and those on multi-hour surveillance who did not necessarily need to be wearing a ballistic helmet while working, which wouldn't fit comfortably and work well with the headmount anyways. These headmounts can be used for reenacting within their time period and still work just fine with a nice pair of NVGs to compliment them!

  • Compatible with the AN/PVS-7 Natively and a AN/PVS-14 with a J-Arm Adapter; uses the bayonet (horn) mount interface meaning it is also compatible with other legacy-NVGs such as the AN/PVS-15 and AN/PVS-18.
  • Customizable Fit; features (5) adjustable straps/adjustment points in total. (2) run from chinstrap-to-top, (2) from chinstrap-to-back, and (1) on the back of the head. Ensures an adjustable, comfortable and secure fit.
  • Hook & Loop Rubber Forehead Guard; provides extra comfort by acting as padding between the frame and forehead. Can be removed if desired as it is attached using hook and loop.
  • Single-Snap Nylon Chinstrap with Rubber Chin Cup
  • Snaps for Donning/Doffing; (2) snaps on the left side of the frame make for quick and easy donning/doffing of the headmount.
  • Provides Hands-Free Wear of NVGs; great for wear with a pair of NVGs properly attached, and without a helmet, as this headmount solves the problem of needing yours hands free while also needing night vision to see and perform the work in front of you. Eliminates the need for holding an NVG with a hand and peering through it to see.
  • Standalone Wear; not to be worn with any helmets or other incompatible headwear. Most ballistic helmets, such as the PASGT helmet, do not work with this headmount and will cause pressure and pain if worn together while also compromising ballistic protection as the helmet will be worn too high on the head.

Military surplus comes in a variety of different conditions based the three " " rule: What, Where, When.

  • Depending on what the item is will generally determine the amount of use and what it was used for. This is important because some items do not endure the torture of being in the field for prolonged periods of time, while others might.

  1. Ex: Dress Uniforms are not worn in combat, therefore generally, there is lighter use than issued combat/working uniforms.

  • Knowing where the item most likely was issued/stored will generally determine the environment it was exposed to. This is important because some items are exposed to harsher conditions than others, or are straight from storage.

  1. Ex: Uniforms & Gear issued in the Vietnam War saw extreme heat and moister, giving those items specific textures/smells/common problems, while the same items issued to troops in occupied Europe do not have those attributes (Generally better conditions).
  2. Ex: Uniforms & Gear stored in a controlled environment (warehouses or similar areas) feel and smell different than if it is stored in a non-controlled environment (Random areas/outside/or exposed to elements)

  • Time is a huge factor, when something was issued generally determines the age of the item. As time goes by everything ages, this is the circle of life and it does apply to inanimate objects, like military surplus. Items will show signs of age, typically tarnished metal/fading/stains/rips/holes/rot/smell. The exception to the rule is NOS ( New old stock) items or ones stored carefully in controlled environments.

  1. Ex: Uniforms & Gear from World War 2 are generally made of canvas/leather/twill or HBT fabric, and are close to 100 years old. These items have more than likely seen combat or were reissued in the Korean or Vietnam Wars. Extensive use and the fact that they are almost a century old will reflect the condition & price. This applies to any era.
  2. Ex: Uniforms & Gear from the original factory box, or items stored carefully in controlled environments will generally retain their durability and "new" look. The age of an item sometimes is not a factor BUT only when it is properly stored or carefully looked after.
