Originally produced during WW1, this vest was intended to carry 11 grenades, BUT hardly saw use in the war. By the time WW2 rolled around, the United States reissued (then) 20 year old gear to its troops as quick fix to arm the unequipped military. The USMC would be the first mass issued this type of WW1 Old Stock.
